Info.

Mutation is a special project for the ICA, spun out of Suzanne Lee’s forthcoming book Fashioning The Future, in collaboration with top image-makers Warren du Preez and Nick Thornton-Jones.

Lee’s research into emergent technologies from electro-textiles to biotechnology enables future visions of fashion that include shape-shifting or growable clothing. Rather than static, passive or mute garments, contemporary textile research suggests the surface of fashion might become active, responsive and changeable.

For the ICA, du Preez and Thornton-Jones have taken inspiration from Lee’s concepts to produce a stunning short digital film that explores futuristic 3D fashion landscapes. Entitled Mutation, the monochrome film offers the viewer a tour of the future fashion body from unfamiliar perspectives, zooming from micro surface detail to macro vistas. It challenges how the fashion image is expressed using 3D space and abstraction.
